Chelsea Fuss

My first memory of flowers is as a child, growing lilac with my mother in the New Hampshire countryside. It’s been sort of an obsession ever since. As I teenager, I spent all my time in my herb garden, making bouquets late into the night. I got my start professionally working at a large hotel florist and garden, I took classes from London designers, including Jane Packer, apprenticed at flower farms in the English countryside, and worked for a number of florists on the West Coast of the USA (not exactly in that order!). At 23, I opened my own flower shop. It’s been almost 20 years of working with flowers and now I write about flower arranging, style flowers for photo shoots, and teach floral design classes to students around the world.

I like to mix English country style (perhaps picked up from my Yorkshire born granny and her sweet pea growing father) with modern simplicity. I have a love for unfussy, casual bouquets that look like they were just plucked from a meadow. Currently I love growing my own flowers and foraging for materials as often as possible.

I am based in Lisbon, Portugal by way of Portland, OR. I write a lifestyle blog called Frolic! where you can see more of my work and find flower tutorials and other design musings.
